Schooling NYC teens on money

The FATFREE team has collaborated with best-selling author and personal finance journalist Beth Kobliner on multiple book launches—but this was different. This time, Kobliner worked with students, teachers and thought leaders to create a free curriculum that teaches high schoolers how to budget, save and one day invest their money. See the site for yourself.

The centerpiece: 10 key lessons

Used in aggregate, the curriculum helps students meet graduation requirements in New York.

Registered educators can save the fast-paced, relevant lessons, all created in Google Slides, to their own drives to use as-is or edit as needed before presenting in the classroom. FATFREE created a site that lets parents, students and the public view content, but requires credentials before downloading and customizing.

Making budgeting cool

To help teens embrace ideas like opening a savings account, the site drives to vetted influencers known for their financial smarts providing their own takes on core concepts.

To further place learners on the right path, the site also offers the first-ever directory of paid internships specific to NYC high schoolers, as well as some important mythbusting.
